Energy Finance ConferenceThe Center for Energy Finance Education and Research (CEFER)
hosted an annual energy
conference each spring from 2001-2005. The topics have included: Risk Management;
Real Options; Deregulation; and International and an analysis of the Enron/Anderson
situation. The participants in these conferences have included industry
practitioners, representatives from CEFER Trustee companies, UT faculty & staff,
and McCombs School MBA and PhD students.

2003: "THE FUTURE OF ENERGY TRADING"

The conference was composed of two panel discussions covering the topics of the
energy trading market and regulation of energy trading. Each panel was
represented by professional practitioners from Mirant, Duke Energy, El Paso,
ConocoPhillips, Citadel, Spectrum Risk Decisions, the Texas Public Utilities
Commission, Apache Corp, and Teknecon Energy Risk Advisors.
2002: "ENRON/ANDERSEN: CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES, AND CONCLUSIONS"
February 22, 2002
The conference included two panel discussions with representatives from Enron
and Duke Energy NA Trading & Marketing as panelists, as well as accounting
representatives from KPMG and the University of Texas at Austin CFO office.
Co-hosted by the UT Department of Accounting.
2001: "THE ENERGY INDUSTRY: CURRENT ISSUES"
February 23, 2001
The conference was
composed of a series of four discussion panels with topics spanning the current
issues in the energy industry. Each panel was represented by professional
practitioners of the energy industry, including Conoco, El Paso Energy, Enron,
Mirant (formerly Southern Energy), and Reliant Energy. Keynote speakers at the
conference included Mark Smith from BMO Nesbitt Burns and Mark Jacobs from
Goldman Sachs.
